When Is It Time to Clean My Carpet or Area Rugs?

Time to Clean!

Cleaning carpet and area rugs every 6 months is the key to less allergens, less dust, and longer lifespan of your investments!

According to the general rule of thumb, you should regularly clean carpet and area rugs every 12 to 18 months; however, we say 6 to 12 months.

Why?

Carpet and area rugs harbor dust, germs, and bacteria at a very high rate. Carpet fibers literally “hold” onto dirt and dust, which will attract germs, bugs, and even more dust and dirt. Fibers act like magnets, attracting all sorts of particles from the air and even from your shoes. If you live in a highly active home or have pets and/or children, we really encourage cleaning every 6 months.

You’ll know it is time to clean the carpet when you notice:

  1. Allergies have worsened

  2. Kids are bringing home germs

  3. Light, musty odor in carpeted rooms

If soil and dust build up in carpet, it will significantly reduce the lifespan of the carpet or area rug. The abrasive texture of grit will break down the carpet fibers over time. We highly recommend vacuuming every couple of days and having professionals (eh-hum – US!) clean the carpet every 6 to 12 months.  Vacuums and store-bought products do not clean as deep into the carpet, so hiring a professional will ensure that your carpet is deep-cleaned and refreshed.

Not only will we remove the dust and grit, we will also reduce allergens and harmful bacteria; it will add years of life to your carpet and area rugs.
